Born and raised in Hazelwood, Maurice has been in the community for over 50 years. He attended Gladstone Middle School, once a hub of the neighborhood, and went to the Hazelwood YMCA when he was a child. Now, Maurice volunteers at Pittsburgh Minadeo, a PreK-5 neighborhood school when he isn’t delivering meals or lending a hand at our afterschool programs.  

In 2014, Mr. Cole was presented with the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Pittsburgh School Board for his heroic act of ushering students to safety, when gunfire erupted near their bus stop.
