Teen Pregnancy

The Difficulties of Teen Pregnancy

Becoming pregnant in your teens can be a frightening thing. An unplanned pregnancy can disrupt a young women's (or couple's) life, drastically alter plans for the future, and force young people into roles of responsibility for which they are not prepared. In addition to these mental and emotional trials, a young pregnancy can be physically harmful to both mother and child. It is important that young people are informed of their options, so that they are better equipped to prevent an unplanned pregnancy.

Abstinence

Of course, the only fail-safe way to prevent pregnancy is abstinence from sexual intercourse. Abstinence is the ONLY way to prevent pregnancy 100% of the time. Center of Life advocates abstinence for teens as a lifestyle choice as well as a preventative measure. We realize that abstinence in itself can be a difficult choice. Whether you are a man or a woman, everywhere you turn there is pressure to become sexually active. This pressure may come from your peers, your partners, or even the conflicted feelings within yourself. Decide on your physical boundaries, and respect them.

Know Your Options

If you do choose to become sexually active, it is important that you make safe, informed decisions. Talk to a doctor, a trusted family member, or a close friend if you want advice about the choice to become sexually active. Most importantly, talk to your sexual partner. Know your boundaries, know the risks, and make your choices carefully.

What if I am Pregnant? (...or my partner is pregnant?)

Discovering that you are pregnant, or learning that your partner is pregnant, can be an overwhelmingly frightening thing. Remember that you are supported, and you have options. If you are a teenager and believe you may be pregnant, talk to a doctor to learn about your options. This website has a list of many medical centers that provide free or low-cost health care.
