Sexual Transmitted Diseases

What are STDs?

STD stands for sexually transmitted disease. (Also called STI, for Sexually Transmitted Infection) STDs are infections spread through sexual behavior and contact. There are many different kinds of STDs, with different symptoms and effects on the body. To learn about different types of STDs, including HIV/AIDs, click here.

Why Should I Get Tested?

Many people falsely believe that STDs can only be spread through penal/vaginal or penal/anal intercourse. But other types of sexual activity can also put you at risk, including oral sex, skin to skin contact, and contact with body fluids.

Because many STDs don't have any signs or symptoms, you (or your partner) may not know if you are infected. So if you are sexually active or have been in the past, getting tested is the smart thing to do.
